Relentless Beats

Hidden Gem in the Form of a 3-Year-Old Unreleased Skrillex & Knife Party Collab

Hidden deep within the music folders of Skrillex’s laptop, a fine jewel has been discovered – a demo that no one has heard up until this year’s Amsterdam Dance Event. Three years ago, something special was in the works between the bass legends Skrillex and Knife Party, but for some reason it was never finished. This collaboration was so dated that Skrillex announced while playing it to his audience, “This is all the way from 2012… I don’t even know what this shit sounds like. Here we go; it’s a mystery!”

This ID takes us back through time to 2012 when both Skrillex and Knife Party were just embarking on their journey rising to the top of the scene. It reminds us exactly why we fell in love with Skrillex to begin with: his heavy bass somehow melded so perfectly with these mystifying robotic sounds that for some reason, we just couldn’t get enough of. This monster of a track somehow snuck by without getting finished, but we can only hope that this rediscovery will lead to both collaborators finally completing it.

With an already extremely positive reaction from fans, one can only speculate (and hope) as to whether this could lead to experimental music production, combining the sounds of dance music from the past with the popular sounds of today. Maybe Skrillex will find some free time in-between touring the world to go through more folders and rediscover more hidden gems that will hopefully be released one day. You can check out the demo paired with another piece of rediscovered music from Skrillex’s music files via Soundcloud:  https://soundcloud.com/basspugginton/skrillex-id-old-demo-from-2012-new
