RB Exclusive Interview: Focus Fire Drops “Kill Them” As A Free Download Just In Time For Halloween

It is always a special thing when an artist based out of our hometown receives any type of acclaim or recognition. This time around, Focus Fire, consisting of Mark Barton who is based out of Scotland and Christian Ellison who resides in Phoenix, have released a monster dubstep track entitled “Kill Them” which premiered Monday, October 27th on YourEDM.

Just in time for Halloween, “Kill Them” takes us through an auditory nightmare with haunting strings and horrifying synth work evocative of Psycho, and samples from the film Doctor Stangelove. This lead builds to a powerful and electrifying dub drop that will have you running and screaming in terror. “It takes more inspiration from a lot of our favorite Halloween/horror movies,” said Barton of the track, “for instance, it’s got elements of Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho in there that really amps up the track’s energy. We’ve spent about a year on it so we’ve been changing and perfecting the track to reflect our personal taste.” Take a listen to this terrifyingly brilliant track here:

This track is a bit of a different direction for Barton and Ellison who have previously been known for their more melodic and uplifting tunes. When asked about the direction that “Kill Them” has taken, Focus Fire stated that they “really enjoy experimenting with new and different sounds. We never start a project with a certain sound in mind, it just kind of evolves into the final version that everyone hears.” As for if they will continue in this direction with future releases, “I definitely think we’re going to make some more darker electro in the future,” stated Ellison, as long as they can “incorporate it into the Focus Fire brand.”

Expect more from Focus Fire in 2016, “We have a lot of new music we’re going to be releasing with other major artists this coming year,” but as of now we will have to wait to find out more details on that. As some parting words, Barton shared his words of wisdom for those of you out there who are looking to make it into production. “Our advice would probably be to just work your butt off. Since we started Focus Fire in 2014, I’ve not slept at all. It’s really good to go over production and try to strengthen the things you aren’t good at but whenever you’re not in the studio, go out and make some friends in the Industry. Contacts are everything.” With a track this solid, I’d say that these guys know what they’re talking about. Download “Kill Them” now!
