RBDeep In the Mix: Dusky RA.423

Dusky is House/Techno production duo, Nick Harriman and Alfie Granger-Howell. The group was formed in 2011, and in just three years the fast-rising duo had asserted themselves as leaders in the UK underground. Their 2015 consisted of touring all over Europe and North America, playing regularly in Ibiza, and making huge appearance at the deep stages of music festivals such as Spring Awakening, Shambhala, and EDC Las Vegas. Dusky has been touring Europe for their new EP Lydia, which was released at the beginning of this year, and now they are back with a podcast mix for the infamous online music magazine Resident Advisor. Check it out!

This hour-long mix was chosen for this week’s RBDeep In the Mix because it showcased their unique style and skill set perfectly. Dusky is known for producing complex House/Techno: there are always many layers in the tracks they play and produce. One would think that with this complexity, the transitions between tracks would sound choppy and overlap each other, but that’s what makes Dusky special. They usually stretch out their transitions with the layer manipulation to make intense Techno build-ups, so that the audience can feel the satisfaction in their sick, twisted, and mind-blowing drops.

Another specialty from their style is that they take full advantage of their insanely large library, and they are not afraid to play classic House/Techno tracks or tracks with old school House sounds. A few examples from this mix are Alex Smoke’s Green Man, and Shawn Christopher’s Another Sleepless Night (Bassman Remix). This mix only marks the beginning of festival season for Dusky and I can’t wait to see what they have in store for the House/Techno fans.
