For the last decade, the underground house and techno community would have already told you who the best DJ was, but now an annual poll presented by DJ Times and Pioneer DJ is hailing Claude VonStroke as America’s Best DJ for 2016. After fans cast their votes online and in person at clubs and major North American festivals like Las Vegas’ Electric Daisy Carnival, the ABDJ Award Ceremony/Closing Party in San Diego will honor VonStroke’s achievement on September 30th.
Based in Los Angeles, American DJ and producer Barclay Crenshaw, known as Claude VonStroke, is the father behind Dirtybird Records and The Birdhouse, a weekly radio podcast. His unique style of electronica funk has attracted the attention of fellow music stars and he has worked on records for Rihanna, The Chemical Brothers, Disclosure and Green Velvet. In addition, his independent record label has helped launch careers of major talent like Shiba San, Justin Martin, and Catz ‘n Dogz to name just a few who have signed onto his label.
Never heard a set from this groove master? If you have a minute, I recommend tuning into his recent 80’s inspired release called ‘The Rain Break.’
But if you really want your booty percolating, check out Mixmag & Smirnoff Sound Collective presenting Claude VonStroke in The Lab.
What fans really love about VonStroke is not only his musical skill, but his genuine joy and drive to create fun for everyone who attends his shows or festivals. This man is always smiling! He wants you to feel just as relaxed as he is and to simply enjoy the experience. True to his art, there’s no need for a showy ego.
“My fans have truly lifted me up with their giant hearts and I want to hug each and every one of them.
I never would have thought that a DJ like me could be on the top of a list like this, but it just goes to show that our family and community is stronger than commercial records and corporate dollars.
Today I’m celebrating the underground spirit of the fans and the 100% independent record label we started back in 2005. Thank you everyone…“ – Claude VonStroke
To find an underground funky-techno-loving soul like that well deserves the accolades from fans and the media alike. Don’t miss your chance to hang and become part of the Dirtybird family by getting tickets to the BBQ series this weekend on September 11th and the much anticipated Dirty Bird Campout on October 7-9 in Silverado, CA featuring an incredible lineup including VonStroke himself, Green Velvet, various artists and comedian Reggie Watts.
