Dada Life Interview

Fun. Theses guys are fun. That’s all there is to it. When you listen to their music, when you watch their videos, or when you read their posts on Facebook and Twitter, it’s easy to see why these guys are so popular. I’ve been a fan of Dada Life for a long time, and have had the chance to see them live a few times, as well. But when I got the chance to interview them, it made me feel like a kid again. Good timing…  These guys are constantly on the road promoting their new single “Tonight We’re Kids Again.” The single is out now on Universal Records.

Do they plan to release any more singles before the next album comes out? “Nope. ‘Tonight We’re Kids Again’ is sweet enough to keep us going for a while,” Ollie says. “That song is like a sugar rush! The album is packed with stuff you’ll never find anything else: mashups, old songs in new versions and other goodies.”

To promote the new single, Dada Life is hitting the road. They have shows coming up in NYC, Detroit, Denver and Phoenix. What can fans expect from the “Dada Land Compound” tour? “We’re bringing all the toys we’ve used for shows during the years. Everything in one night!” Sounds good to me! “And some new secret stuff of course. On the other hand, we never know what’s going to happen. We just put everything in place and kick it off. So expect the unexpected.” They will be in Phoenix on February 21.

You can’t listen to or think about Dada Life without thinking about bananas. Can you please explain your obsession with bananas? “They’re just the perfect food in a sweaty club. Protective peel and packed with energy! Add champagne and you have a combo that’s so good it should be illegal!” I never thought about adding champagne. I’ll drink to that.

Olle, I am sure this is a tough subject for you to talk about. But tell me more about your battle with cancer and how you are kicking cancer’s ass? “I’ve been through chemotherapy during the fall and now I’m feeling better. Hopefully that treatment was all I needed. Now I will take blood samples and so on for a few years, like all cancer patients do. But hopefully it’s in the past. The music is in the future!” I still remember where I was when I read that Ollie had been diagnosed with cancer. But with an attitude like that, no wonder he is beating it.

I really like “Tonight We’re Kids Again.” But these guys have a lot of singles. Is it possible to pick a favorite? “Always the latest. That’s what keeps us going.”

Over the years, their sound has changed a lot. It is always getting better and their shows are getting bigger. The duo originally formed in 2006. In your own words, explain how has your sound changed over the years, and where do you see your sound going in the future. “We’re always looking for a special energy in our music,” Ollie mentioned. “You should be able to take a track from us and slice it in a microsecond part and that little snippet should contain enough energy to make the universe explode. It’s vertical music. We will keep doing that in the future.”

What’s next for Dada Life? “The biggest thing from us this spring is our coming album. We’re really excited! We have tried to compress the experience of being in Dada Land for a night into the album format. And I think we have succeeded!”

In all of the interviews I do, I always give the artist the last word. Go. “If you never been to Dada Land you don’t know what life has to offer.”

Don’t miss your chance to see Dada Life perform live at at Rawhide on February 21. Joining them on stage will be Party Favor, Slander, Bro Safari and Phoenix favorite Tritonal. You know I’ll be there. This is Dada Life!!!
