Phantogram Joins Forces with Subtronics & Rezz on Explosive New Version of 'Black Ice'
Originally from Canton, Ohio, rapper Trippie Redd first emerged in 2015 with a series of online tracks that hinted early on at the versatile style he would come to develop, one that blended elements of cloud rap and trap influenced by T-Pain, Gucci Mane, and Lil Wayne with the energy of punk and metal inspired by Kiss and Marilyn Manson.
Born Michael Lamar White IV in 1999, he was still a teenager when his rap career started, and he began releasing mixtapes and videos that would eventually lead him to viral Internet success and a deal with the Universal-distributed label Strange Entertainment. After working on mixtapes like 2016’s Beast Mode and Awakening My InnerBeast, White delivered his most involved work with 2017’s A Love Letter to You, which reached the Top 100 of the Billboard 200.
Now, we are met with Red’s first release of the year, the overwhelmingly emotional, “Under Enemy Arms.” Speaking on the hurts and horrors of ending a relationship, Trippie brings raw emotion to his art on this one. After a string of internet teases, Trippie finally debuted the track during his performance at the Beale Street Music Festival in Memphis earlier in May. Fear not, there is plenty more where this came from. In a conversation with record producer, Zane Lowe, Red confirmed that new music is on the way. Future projects will see him playing to his punk side with Travis Barker as well as a solo album. We will soon be seeing a lot of Red.
