YetepIt’s that time of year again: DJ Mag announces its much-anticipated list of 2012’s top 100 DJs. You voted and the results are in.
1. Armin van Buuren
2. Tiesto
3. Avicii
4. David Guetta
5. Deadmau5
6. Hardwell
7. Dash Berlin
8. Above & Beyond
9. Afrojack
10. Skrillex
Once again, Armin van Buuren has reclaimed the number one spot in the DJ Top 100 list for 2012, with 2011’s number one, David Guetta, fall three spots to number four. The talents don’t seem as enthused about the competition as in previous years.
Kaskade (#30) went as far as writing a post on his blog questioning today’s relevance of the DJ Mag Poll and saying that as much as he appreciates the votes, he doesn’t need a spot on the Top 100 DJs list to feel satisfied with his music or fans:
“And while the integrity of the voting process has never actually been solid, the bigger and somewhat embarrassing question is, does EDM actually need a Prom King or Homecoming Queen? I didn’t jockey for the title in High School, and I’m not doing it now.”
Of course, Twitter is blowing up with the likes of fans and artists about the results of the poll. Many are shocked that Markus Schultz, falling into #13, just short of the top 10, even after being named America’s Best DJ for 2012 just a few weeks ago. Swedish House Mafia also missed the mark of top 10 by two spots, falling into #12.
While fans are thrilled that Armin is resting on the number one spot, once again, how much weight does this poll truly hold? According to people on the social media platform that are rather displeased with some of the results, just because you can produce doesn’t mean you’re good at DJing. To each their own!
Congratulations to all the DJs recognized on DJ Mag’s Top 100 list.
Editor note. We’re going to continue to book and produce shows with artists we like, regardless of poll position.
