When it comes to dropping beats behind the decks, typically the most well known and successful DJs and producers are males with a few female exceptions such as like Emma Hewitt, Nervo, and Kristina Sky. CBS Radio and Astralwerks Records are about to change that with the launch of a nationwide contest for budding female talent known as She Can DJ.
She Can DJ will feature a nationwide talent search beginning this July and if you think you’ve got what it takes, you can subscribe for updates on the competition. One lucky winner will headline a national tour and sign a worldwide recording deal with Astralwerks and Capitol Music Group.
“Seeing how successful She Can DJ was in discovering top female DJ/producers in overseas markets, it’s the perfect time to launch stateside,” Astralwerks General Manager, Glenn Mendlinger, said. “The United States is the hottest place on earth for dance music right now but the industry is largely male dominated.”
So the question is, will a competition like She Can DJ be successful here in the US? It turns out that this competition has been incredibly successful both in European and Australian markets. Now, the contest will run local competitions in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Houston, Boston, Detroit, Phoenix, San Diego, Charlotte and Las Vegas via CBS Radio stations. At the end of these competitions, 12 semi-finalists will be chosen to compete for the grand prize mentioned above.
Astralwerks is thrilled to be a part of a program that will help discover and develop a top female talent in EDM. For more information, visit SheCanDJUS.com.
