YetepLast week, Insomniac announced the 2013 line-up for EDC Las Vegas. The line-up included the usual super star DJs and producers; however, this year’s roster features up-and-coming artists who are bound to have an incredible 2013. In the weeks leading up to EDCLV, I will feature a select group of DJs and producers from every genre who are noteworthy. Make sure you don’t miss these artists in June!
This week it’s all about trap! ∆lex Young is a 16-year-old DJ and producer hailing from Washington D.C. He was recently featured in Diplo’ s “Diplo and Friends” BBC Radio 1Xtra show and has received praise from trap royalty including: RL Grime, Baauer, and Flosstradamus.
He began producing in 2011. His breakthrough remix of “Bad Things” by indie band Cults in December 2012 turned up the blogosphere chatter. His take on this indie track had the basic elements of a trap banger, but maintained the chill vibe of the original song reflecting how developed ∆lex is as producer.
His original productions are equally impressive. “Boomerang” is the epitome of a trap anthem. Not only creative in his productions, ∆lex has created his own genres to describe his music like hood euphoric and pirate trap. The latest sound to hit his Soundcloud page is a remix of BenZel’s “Fallin’ Love” solidifying that by the end of 2013 he will be a sought after trap producer.
Looking forward to ∆Y’s forthcoming EP later this year.
