YetepThe EDC Spotlight Series went on hiatus last week, but I’m bringing it back! This week I’m going deep with Francesca Lombardo.
London-based, Francesca Lombardo was born and raised in Italy. She attended the Conservatorium of Music in Italy where she was classically trained in opera and piano. She moved to London to continue pursuing her music education. In London, she began DJing under the name, Jackie Misfit. As she made the rounds in the London underground scene, she started her own label, Echolette Records.
In 2011, she met Damian Lazarus, founder of Crosstown Rebels label. Lazarus signed Lombardo to his label soon after their meeting at the Winter Music Conference in Miami, Flo. In July 2012, Crosstown Rebels Label released her debut EP, Changes.
The four-track EP has a wide range of dark and sharp tones, but also colorful and bouncy sounds. Her sound dances between deep house and techno where, occasionally, her vocal talent is featured. Hip and sophisticated are two words that come to mind when listening to Changes. Lombardo is set to release a full-length album under Crosstown Rebels later this year or early 2014.
In May 2013, she was invited to speak alongside Pete Tong at the Ibiza International Music Summit about women in the industry. Her set at EDC Las Vegas is definitely a must! Her style is easy yet masterfully executed. It will be unlike anything EDC fans will listen to during the three-day festival.
