rickyleepotts Catches Up With Cosmic Gate: Wake Your Mind

Cosmic Gate recently released a deluxe edition of Wake Your Mind. For two months it was all I could listen to. The album is just filled with epic tracks like “Be Your Sound” featuring Emma Hewitt, Never Apart featuring Alana Aldea, Flying Blind with JES, and the title track “Wake Your Mind.” I was so impressed with the release, I reached to the guys for an interview. It was fun chatting with Cosmic Gate as they tour in support of the new release.

Cosmic Gate & Emma Hewitt – Be Your Sound

They originally released Wake Your Mind in 2011, so I was curious why they decided to release a deluxe edition of this album. “The Deluxe Edition release simply contains the best of Wake Your Mind. That means the complete original album, the best remixes, some so far unreleased remixes, the videos of the singles, some more bonus material on top of all that. There was so much material that deserved a proper release. For us, this is a must have for every fan, and hopefully new fans in the making!”

I was glad they mentioned the remixes, because this release is full of them. Names like Ferry Corsten, W&W, Tritonal, and Orjan Nilsen remixes their work. “It’s always fantastic when such appreciated colleagues and friends take their time to remix our music. We are really happy with how the remixes turned out, always fun to play them in our set and one of the reasons the Deluxe Edition gets received so well.” Having seen Cosmic Gate live, I know they also toss in “Be Your Sound” and “Wake Your Mind” in nearly every set. Those are two of my favorite tracks on the album. “We like to play those as often as we can. Of course, this changes with the mood we are in. We heard already every track of Wake Your Mind mentioned as someone’s “favorite track on the album,” which makes us hope we produced a good album from A to Z.”

Cosmic Gate & Cary Brothers – Wake Your Mind

Cosmic Gate is on a pretty impressive tour right now in support of this new release. They are playing clubs and festivals all summer, but I am always curious what a DJ prefers. “There are a lot of amazing clubs out there, so it would be impossible to mention just one club. We also like playing festivals. Festival sets are shorter and more filled with highlights, while a club set is longer. That’s why its possible to play a bit of a real set building music up and down and the contact to the crowd is closer and you get a better vibe and a more intimate energy, so both is great in its way and we wouldn’t want to miss it.”

I keep going back to “Wake Your Mind”, but that track is just incredible. The beat is great, but the lyrics make the track memorable. “The song is written and also gets performed by our man Cary Brothers, a super talented singer/songwriter from LA that actually is doing more independent and rock stuff, but we think is vocal fits perfect to the more progressive feel of Wake Your Mind, one of our favorites from the album as well.”

Electronic Dance Music in Sin City

Las Vegas has become a hotspot for electronic dance music. Some of the biggest dance clubs in the world are in Vegas, and there are new clubs opening up all the time. Pick any weekend and you will find a party in Las Vegas. Cosmic Gate likes it there, and they keep coming back every few weeks to perform. “To play Vegas is always big fun; people come there just to relax and party, so for us it’s always a great stop.”

Another name that you can always find in Las Vegas is Emma Hewitt. Like I said, she appears on “Be Your Sound”, and has been producing some of her own music lately. I asked the guys what it was like working with her on that single. “After all the work and the numerous gigs we have played with Emma, she is kind of a part of our family! She is simply super talented and skilled, and we always have much fun hanging out with her.”

So what’s next for Cosmic Gate? “We just started working on new music, a new single, one cooperation track on top besides this, we will start our own radio show/podcast pretty soon, lets keep your ears open, it wont be long…” Look for more great stuff from these two in the coming months. “Go ahead Wake Your Mind, we won’t tell!!!”
