Scuba Delivers Essential Mix for BBC Radio 1

MON, MAY 18, 2015

This past weekend, Hotflush label boss and legendary DJ/producer Scuba turned in what will undoubtedly be in the running for “Essential Mix of the Year.” Playing everything from Paul Woolford to Agoria to Alan Fitzpatrick, and of course, his own originals and remixes, Scuba covers a vast amount of ground within the realm of electronica.

“This mix is a summation of the kind of sets I’ve most enjoyed playing recently,” Scuba said. “End of the night slots where I’ve got a lot of space to play around, form a peak time starting point to an almost after hours kind of finish. There’s a point around half way through the mix where it’s almost as if the sun is rising and after that points all bets are off, in the same way it happens in real life where you feel like there’s total freedom to play whatever you like.”

This “Essential Mix” coincides perfectly with his current North American tour, which sees him traipsing through Boston, Miami, New York City, San Francisco, and more. The album, Claustrophobia, is modern and understated throughout, but also touched with something unrestrained: the exhilarating energy of classic rave. These nuances and juxtapositions come to vivid and audible fruition in Scuba’s performances, making this seven stop North American tour a must-see.
