Decadence NYE Two-Day Extravaganza Takes On The Feels With First Released Headliner: ODESZA

Over the years Relentless Beats has brought a plethora of amazing names to the valley, keeping up with the heat and fans on their toes with all different genres of electronic music. Wet Electric was the first two-day event RB has held, and we’re only growing from there. It was recently announced that this years Decadence New Years Eve will be extended to two days of what is an unforgettable New Years experience instead of just one night. And to top that news off, the first headliner was announced today kicking off the lineup with some feels from one of my favorites of all time, ODESZA.

Last year’s Decadence lineup was jam packed with some of the hottest names in the game like Kaskade, Seven Lions, Flosstradamus, Fedde Le Grand, Savoy, and DVBBS. Those six names were the perfect combo under the lights inside the tent at Rawhide making for the perfect New Year’s celebration. That night was my first time spending New Year’s Eve at a musical event rather than some sort of party with friends and family, and I can easily say I wouldn’t mind continuing the trend for the rest of my NYE’s. The anticipation is high as fans are hungry for the remainder of this years two-day lineup, and ODESZA is pointing things in the right direction.

Harrison Mills and Clayton Knight are the masterminds that make up the chillwave duo, ODESZA, emerging as a striking new voice for electronic music in 2012. The startling and irresistible dreaminess of their sound grabbed fans attention with their first album, ‘Summer’s Gone’, and the two songs “How Did I Get Here” and “iPlayYouListen” instantly leapt to #1 on the Hype Machine Popular Chart. ODESZA began to reel in fans, with word of their music setting the world, both real and virtual, alight.

2013 brought big moves for the pair with their My Friends Never Die EP, with three of the five tracks hitting #1 on Hype Machine. Following that was a number of performances including Sasquatch Music Festival and Lightning In A Bottle. Then February 2014 brought the release of the wonderful single “Sun Models (feat. Madelyn Grant)”, taken from the duo’s forthcoming second album. This song continued the trend they’d set previously, and it too hit #1 on Hype Machine. In March 2014 ODESZA’s remix of Pretty Lights’ “Lost And Found” was released on the DIVERGENT movie soundtrack, and you guessed it, hit #1 on Hype Machine.

ODESZA’s most recent work consists of a refreshing remix of Hayden James’ ‘Something About You’, released only 17 days ago with an irresistible upbeat melody and 20K likes on SoundCloud. With their each of their songs possessing a unique sound, ODESZA still produces such a distinct aura that I have yet to hear from any other artist. I find it impossible to feel down with any ODESZA song playing in the background, and I can’t wait to experience their uplifting vibes on New Year’s Eve. It’s hard to believe that any lineup could beat last year’s at Decadence NYE, but I have high expectations that this year will do just that.
