YetepArtists often use their music to tell a story, to transform the listener to a place they have never been before. This is the case with Sam Gellaitry, a Scotland-based DJ who uses tranquil but complex beats to bring a new light to the electonic genre.
Unlike most mainstream DJs, Gellaitry does not use overly invasive beats, attempting to overwhelm the listener with an excessive amount of bass drops that embody the typical EDM energy.
Instead, Gellaitry incorporates a unusually calm type of vibe that feels refreshingly pleasant yet always keeps the listener on their toes.
His complex beats incorporate a wide variety of sounds that would seem overwhelming but blend together to make a surprisingly mellow tone.
By listening to his songs, one would expect Gellaitry to have been in the industry for a decent amount of time, creating unique tunes time and time again while flying under the radar.
But no, Gellaitry — who is just 19-years-old — recently released his second EP, Escapism, in November through XL Recordings, an England-based independent label that has worked with the likes of Adele, The White Stripes and The xx.
His first, Short Stories, was released through his former label, Soulection, in February 2015 and can also be found on his SoundCloud.
For those who want to get whisked away by the sounds of Gellaitry, he will be headlining a show alongside Ellery, Alxndrwlf, Joey T, Hartbreaks, Meanmugg and Riot Earp at Valley Bar on April 21.
Tickets can be purchased here for the 18-and-over show.
