RBDeep In the Mix: Hernan Cattaneo @ Burning Man 2015

Hernan Cattaneo is a legendary DJ, producer and label owner from Argentina with a long-spanning career of over three decades as an underground artist. Cattaneo is a well respected producer and often considered to be one of the foundations of modern underground sound. Known for his love of all music, his dedication to his fans, and his commitment to consistently delivering quality tunes, he has built a reputation for class and good showmanship that is often lacking in the modern music scene, and has proven himself one of the few artists who has proudly stood by his musical principles that he started with in the beginning of his career. Throughout the years, a seasoned DJ like Cattaneo had the opportunity to play at infamous international venues and festivals such as Ibiza, EDC, Bedrock, Fabric, and Burning Man. This mix was picked for this week’s RBDeep In the Mix because it demonstrates Hernan Cattaneo’s skillset, experience and comfort level with the underground scene and with such a big stage like Burning Man. The best thing about this mix for me is how comfortable Cattaneo is when it comes to “dragging out” the transition. Staying true to his musical principles, Hernan Cattaneo wants his audience to feel all of the tiniest changes and tweaks he makes on stage, so time limit is never an issue for him. His experience also shines through during these long drops because he knows that to the underground audience, the most satisfying drops usually come with long, and minimal change transitions.

This two and a half hour mix featured many underground artists who share very similar musical principles and taste with Hernan Cattaneo, such as Guy J, Pablo Centrini, Guy Mantzur, Sahar Z, Guy Gerber, Oxia, Giddyhead, and more. The tracklist of this mix was on point about showcasing arts and creativity through the slow, and emotional vibes of chill underground techno. Hernan Cattaneo’s mission was accomplished when he left the stage with satisfying smiles all over the faces of his audience.
