Haven’t heard of against the clock? Well…EDM lovers this is the Youtube Channel that you are going to be absolutely obsessed with. Fact Magazine has multiple videos from various artists racing against the clock. The object of the game is that each DJ has 10 minutes to produce a song. The goal of these videos is to challenge the DJs and their skills. As an observer, the goal is to recognize the special talents that these DJs possess.
For any of those silly friends of yours that think EDM is just a DJ hitting the play button, show them “Against the Clock”. Producing is a difficult talent to master. I personally cannot describe the skill and the talent that goes along with producing, but now these videos can show you.
I’m no DJ, but I do respect anyone who produces. I know that producing is very difficult and time consuming, and many people who have an interest in producing never follow through with it because of the lack of time that they have. Look at Flux Pavilion. 10 minutes was not very much time even for him because his song was about 30 seconds long.
These videos are great for all EDM fanatics. For the young DJs who want to rise to the top this is a great opportunity for you to learn skills from various artists. For those who do not DJ or produce, this gives you an opportunity to grow your appreciation for music.
Can everyone produce a song in 10 minutes? No. Flux Pavilion could not, but did he produce quality sound? Absolutely. Like I said, I cannot describe to you the skill and art that goes into producing, but my favorite DJs summed it up all in one song. Lyrics are located underneath the link.
“You take a sound. Any sound. Record it and then change its nature by a multiplicity of operations. Record it at different speeds. Play it backwards. Add it to itself over and over again. You adjust filters, echoes, acoustic qualities. You combine segments of magnetic tape. By these means and many others you can create sounds that no one has ever heard before…”
I could not have said it any better than Odesza. Next time you listen to a song, remember to appreciate that sound and all the time, love, and effort each producer puts into this track to make your day better.
