Relentless Beats

Artist Spotlight: Atmozfears is Heating Up Hardstyle

Atmozfears is a dutch hardstyle artist who pushes the boundaries of the genre with his emotive and energetic style. While some may say most hardstyle tends to sound the same, Atmozfears showcases his musical talent as he maintains a striking and unique sound of hardstyle.

With influences from hard techno and hardcore, hardstyle was birthed in the late 1990’s and typically consists of a deep, hard-sounding kick drum, intense faded or reversed basslines accompanying the beat, a dissonant synth melody story telling, and detuned and distorted sounds. The first few years of hardstyle were characterized by a tempo of around 140–150 BPM, a compressed kick drum sound, a short vocal sample, a screech and the use of a “reverse bass”, which can be heard on the offbeat after each kick. Hardstyle was influenced by gabber and has its origins in the Netherlands where other artists like DJ Zany, Lady Dana, DJ Isaac, and DJ Pavo, who produced hardcore, started experimenting while playing their hardcore records.

As this genre has such a distinct sound, it takes a musical genius to stand out amongst others, and Atmozfears has done just that. From what originally started as a trio in 2008, Atmozfears has grown to become a huge name in dance music with Tim van de Stadt now carrying on the name. Tim showed a love for music at a young age excelling in piano at the age of 4 years old. His interest in the various branches of electronic music and audio engineering skills developed while growing up, finally adopting music as his path in life. Atmozfears’ hardstyle creations are strikingly one of a kind with his combinations of euphoric and raw hardstyle, and trancy melodic buildups. Electric snares and starry synths can be heard throughout Atmozfears’ atmosphere.

He was asked in an interview with discogs about staying within the box of this genre, and he replied with:

“There is no ‘box’. The moment I dive into the studio it’s not clear what I’m going to make exactly. There is no plan, no schedule, there are no rules. I do whatever makes me feel good at that moment. Every time I finish a track, I’ve put a piece of me in it. Apparently multiple people can find themselves in what I stand for.” Tim is known for spending almost every waking hour of his day in the studio or on stage. His level of dedication to music isn’t something you can learn or forget. It’s a true passion to spread enjoyment and a sense of togetherness.”

Maybe the secret to hardstyle is thinking outside the box.

Catch him at the Monarch Theatre on November 26th to see just what Atmozfears has to offer!
