YetepThe deeper sounds are being found everywhere lately. Besides just RB Deep shows and RB Deep festival stages, more deep/house/techno artists are visiting the valley than ever. This week’s RB Deep in the Mix belongs to Rob Garza who will be making his way to Phoenix later this month!
Rob Garza, from Washington DC, has a career that has taken him around the globe. As a founding member of the international music group, Thievery Corporation, he’s shared stages with Paul McCartney but also played remote clubs in places you’ve probably never even heard of. At the end of 2013, Garza released an EP titled Calle del Espirtu Santo inspired by the spirit of his travels in Madrid, Spain. It’s the first in a series of releases that recount his memories as an international music explorer.
This mix, released in May for radio station KEXP, sits just under an hour. He says his music is inspired by his travels and it shows. There’s a variety of sounds and beats representative of other cultures. He opens with a spacey track, “Oud Dreams” by LA producer DJ Sabo followed by a mix from German duo Dole-Kom. It’s full of synthesized beats and funky breakdowns. Fast-forward about half-way through the mix and disco vibes begin to take over before going into a mysterious, percussion-filled tune by Switzerland DJ Fat Sushi. He ends the mix with a funky indie-electro track. This is a fun mix that’s all over the board. You never know what Rob Garza is going to bring, but you can always count on it to be original!
Rob Garza joins Mija, Jack Beats, Nosaj Thing, Ardalan and Durante as part of the Fk A Genre Tour on November 23rd. This will be a night full of a variety of music. Don’t miss out, get tickets here!
