RB Deep in the Mix: Felix da Housecat – CRSSD Fall 2016

Felix da Housecat, born Felix Stallings Jr, is best known for his eclectic house and techno sound. He’s also known for a host of other aliases including Mezcalateer, Thee Maddkatt, and Aphrohead that he’s also released music under. He fell in love with electronic music, more specifically house during it’s rise to prominence in his hometown of Chicago in the eighties. His first album, Metropolis Present Day? Thee Album!, was released in 1995. Over the last 20-plus years, he’s released another 10 albums, a number of mix albums and singles, and a huge amount of remixes for artists like Madonna, Britney Spears, and Miike Snow.

This week’s RB Deep in the Mix is a throwback to when Felix da Housecat took over the famous MixMag lounge during CRSSD‘s fall festival

He opens his set with a popping disco vibe, dropping “Wanna Push You” by Gemini. He drops fan favorite “Sinner Winner” about a third of the way into his hour and a half mix. We also hear tracks from Billy Kenny, Moby, and Loco Dice. Felix ends his CRSSD set with a throwback to 1978’s “I’m A Big Freak” by Phreek.

Festival season is just around the corner and this mix and festival footage will definitely get you in the mood for what’s to come!
