Spin It Back Saturday: Detlef – ‘Favorite Color’

Greece born artist, Alexander Georgiandis, or as audiences call him, Detlef, has become a force to be reckoned with in the underground European house scene. The unique rhythm in his music has helped Detlef gain a niche and loyal following, Detlef has been fueling the U.K. underground for over a decade. When he began making music over a decade ago, he started out being featured on several Greek “Various Artists” album mixes. In 2010, Detlef came forward and brought Manika Panika EP. A three-track submarine that dives deep into the distorted and translucent side of European house music. In the following years, Detlef would go on to release over have a dozen EP’s and numerous singles on labels like Relief, Hot Creations, and Moon Harbour, all while gaining support from artists like Green Velvet and Armin Van Buuren.

For this week’s Spin it Back Saturday, we are looking at “Favorite Color” from Detlef’s 2011 EP Talking to Myself.

“Favorite Color” is a tune that was way ahead of its time. The catchy bassline sucks listeners in right from the beginning. The track starts with scattered vocals throughout as though Detlef sampled sounds from an elegant nightclub or restaurant. As “Favorite Color” progresses, these voices grow louder and more disfigured, all while complimenting the constantly changing kicks, claps, and snares of the bassline perfectly.

Kick off halloweek at Shady Park on Sunday, October 28th to watch Detlef go B2B with Latmun for a 5 HOUR SET! House heads, don’t miss it! Grab tickets here.
