Relentless Beats

Goldfish Unleashs New Chapter with ‘It Was You’

Goldfish have been on a roll, and at this point, there’s no stopping them. They left a trail of energized crowds and mesmerized listeners in their wake with their 2017 album Late Night People, and now the South-African duo have started a new chapter with “It Was You,” a phenomenal, sophisticated collaboration with Brazilian-American recording artist Zeeba.

Since they locked themselves in the studio and emerged with the debut album Caught In The Loop in 2006, GoldFish have transformed from one of dance music’s best-kept secrets to luminaries – both as producers and as live performers. Their unique musical vision has led them to countless sold-out performances and festival appearances, a top 10 in the iTunes Dance chart in the United States, and support from the likes of Sam Feldt and Thomas Jack. Late Night People helped the duo stand out even further in dance music, and “It Was You” will only catapult them farther. On their latest track, Goldfish say,

“We’ve always been about songwriting that tells a story. With this track, it was really cool to step away from our normal style and create something slower and more emotional with Zeeba. It was a lot of fun writing together and Zeeba was the perfect musician and vocalist to collaborate and explore this side of our music personalities with. The song really speaks to how quickly life passes us all by, and we wanted to channel that feeling. It’s bittersweet, just like life!”

With a breathtaking blend of striding vocals, deliberate percussion placement, gentle strings, and subtle saxophone play, “It Was You” tells a story that hooks in all sorts of ways. It’s a truly remarkable composition that puts the versatility of both GoldFish and Zeeba in the limelight and strikes a chord in listeners as soon as they press play.
