YetepDeviant dubstep dudes who together are Jkyl & Hyde have been cooking up some wonky sounds in the dub laboratory like a couple of mad scientists since late 2017. They’ve concocted their own sound with infusions of riddim, wonky bass, and horror dubstep similar to the likes of legendary bass producer Figure, proving they’re one to keep an eye on. They’ve gained recent recognition from artists like Funtcase and have released on Never Say Die, a revered bass label. Their maniacal music is only growing stronger with each upload they post to SoundCloud, with the most recent example of this being their latest track, “Artifacts.”
This track is a trembling combination of high-pitched springy wobbles, samples of women screaming in horror, and shuddering synths. It teeters in that sweet spot between heavy dubstep and weird bass that melts your brain – a true product from the minds of scientists. It seems like Jkyl & Hyde are living up to the fictional evil genius they’re named after. Get weird and wacky with them when they open for Monxx at AURA – tickets can be found here.
