YetepOne of the best imports to come out of South Africa is Kyle Watson, a talented DJ/producer who has turned heads worldwide since emerging onto the scene over a decade ago. From underground dance floors to massive festivals, Watson’s music fits in anywhere, and his latest release, “Late Night Phone Call” is no different.
Released via deadmau5’s esteemed hau5trap label, “Late Night Phone Call” features oscillating percussive elements, Watson’s signature funky bass line, and a classic ringing cell phone sample before a voice says “Hello? Can you hear me?” The result is an intoxicating house groove made for the dance floor. Check it out below!
“I worked on ‘Late Night Phone Call’ for ages, tweaking it over and over to get it to this point,” explains Watson. “I wanted to keep it really simple, with a groove and drums that had to be strong enough to pull the track energy along. The sense of anticipation in the buildups contrasts really well with the drops, so when that bassline pops back in after that memorable vocal sample it just seems to hit right every time.”
Don’t miss Kyle Watson alongside Carl Cox, Adam Beyer, Wax Motif, Kasablanca, and more at the first-ever Body Language Music Festival taking place March 4-6. You can see the full lineup and purchase tickets here.
