Artist Spotlight: Level Up

Los Angeles-born DJ and producer Sonya Broner, better know as Level Up, got her start behind the decks as a battle DJ studying under master turntablist Rob Swift. She moved to New York City out of high school, and once there learned everything from scratching, beat juggling, and crowd control, all while going to college full time at The New School of Drama in Manhattan. She started playing clubs where she was able to use everything she had learned from Swift on real crowds. Once comfortable live DJing, Sonya began doing scratch battles where she would compete against other turntablists. It was during this time that she began applying everything she has learned to electronic music at home.

Level Up has always had a passion for EDM. She’s been attending shows since 18, and after four years of turntablism she decided to pursue DJing electronic music, dubstep specifically, further. Level Up came into the dubstep scene with her heavy beats and dark, spooky aesthetic, and has quickly become a force to be reckoned with. 2021 was a huge year Level Up; she played her first headline tour, and has since performed at major festivals EDC Las Vegas, Lost Lands, Electric Forest, Bass Canyon, Lollapalooza, Hard Summer and more.

Level Up has just released her new Coven EP and has announced her second headline tour, the Spellbound Tour. Catch Level Up on the Spellbound Tour at Effex Nightclub in Albuquerque on September 8th and Aura in Tempe on September 9th.
