Relentless Beats

RB Exclusive Interview: SkiiTour

Hailing from Whistler, Canada, SkiiTour is a fun-loving house duo known for their upbeat, groovy sound and their retro “apres-ski” aesthetic. The duo have accumulated over 6 million plays through streaming platforms and have made Mixmag & DJ Mag’s “Track of the Month” multiple times. On top of their steady output of releases, they are currently in the midst of their extended Falling Into Winter Tour, which will make a stop right here in Phoenix this month.

I had the chance to speak with SkiiTour ahead of their show. Check it out below!

We love your whole “apres-ski” brand. Were you both born and raised in Canada and did you frequent the slopes often?

Tim was born in Canada but Dave is from New Zealand. We met in Whistler (where we live) and every powder day you can find us in the lift line an hour before the lifts open. We love fresh tracks.

How does playing in Canada compare to playing in the US? Similar crowd energy?

The main difference is that you can go to the club when you are 19 in Canada (18 in some places) but other than that it is pretty similar. Our favourite places to play are ski towns and university towns as they seem to party the hardest.

We know you are still adding stops to your Falling Into Winter Tour. Do you find it hard to maintain a personal life with such a packed touring schedule? How do you balance the two?

This tour has been hectic but we have been able to take quite a few days off to ride at different ski resorts this year.  We have been able to snowboard in 6 different states on this tour which has been amazing. Sometimes it feels like we are only home to do laundry but we consider ourselves fortunate that this project has become so successful.

You’ve played some iconic venues and festivals over the years! What have been your most memorable ones so far?

Playing Shambhala every year is definitely a highlight. We have an aprés ski party every Thursday and the energy there is insane.

This year we DJed for the legendary ski/snowboard competition Kings & Queens of Corbets at Jackson Hole. We got to load up on the tram with the ski patrolers before the hill opened and then we snowboarded to our dj booth which was the back of a snowcat. We were parked up at the top of the mountain right in front of the final jump and got to watch all the athletes send it right in front of us.

What’s on your bucket list for the future?

We would love to play at Coachella and Electric Forest.

You’ve already accomplished so much throughout your career, including running your Double Black Records label! Any artists on your radar lately that we should know about?

We are big fans of No Thanks (from Vancouver BC).

We can’t wait to host you in Tempe on April 29th! What should fans expect from your set?

We will be playing a high energy house set peppered with our own tracks and we will have our snow machines blasting so bring your goggles.

Don’t miss SkiiTour at Darkstar in Tempe on Saturday, April 29th. Grab you tickets here!
