‘Supernova’: A Majestic Collaboration between SoDown, Oblivinatti, & Twinnflame

In honor of a successful celebration of the annual PHXLIGHTS Festival (coincidentally titled Supernova this year), I decided to cover this incredible new release. “Supernova” was crafted by three incredible artists: SoDown, Oblivinatti, and Twinnflame respectively.

The production on “Supernova” is simply MAGNIFICENT. There are so many little details and easter eggs hidden throughout, making every listen an opportunity to find something new. The lyrics and production on “Supernova” perfectly match the cosmic aesthetic captured by the title. Beautiful lyrics start this song off on a high note as a variety of glistening sounds build up in the background.

“Send a signal. Come rescue me. Supernova, heart with a key. I am floating in a cosmosphere. Eyes wide open. Heart with a key.”

The drum build up during the initial verse is an amazing combination of rumbling snares, low-key claps, and some mysterious clicks. Chill keyboards and splash effects add to the space-like vibe of “Supernova.” The track takes on a bit of an icy tone to it as well. A perfect way to capture the vast, chilling nature of the open universe. Lyrically, these themes are catered to as well, as the song begins the gradual ascent into orbit.

“In a dream, I saw a vision in the sky where me and the universe collide,” declares the vocalist, as just about every element of production ramps up the intensity and volume. Rapid drums and a rising laser shoot us off into the stratosphere. Here. We. GO!

The second half of the word “collide” echoes throughout the drop, as it spirals around like our very own Milky Way galaxy. “Supernova” continues its flight path, while sounds akin to passing stars and galaxies go on all around us. After a few listens, I can hear some underlying wubs in there. They are pleasantly spongey and add a lot to the song. I think I may even hear a couple hidden guitar riffs in there. There is so much going on at once.

After the drop, a trailing off vocal sample brings us to the trademark sounds of the sax man himself: SoDown. The sax and piano bridge combination perfectly meshes with elements of EDM to capture the mysterious beauty of the universe.

“What is fake? And what is real? (Tell me, baby.)” As SoDown continues to shred on the sax. “Supernova” concludes with a final drop, while returning to the lyrics in the beginning and incorporating the saxophone to its full potential. This is one of the best EDM songs that I have heard in a while and I could not recommend it more!
