YetepJiqui has been on my radar for a while now, and we’ve got an incredible opportunity to catch him live at Darkstar soon! He’s one of those small bass artists with tremendous talent, steadily building up a fan base and momentum. It’s no wonder he’s starting to show up more on festival lineups—his style of bass offers a refreshing twist in the often oversaturated genre, yet it remains familiar enough for longtime bassheads to enjoy. I stumbled across Jiqui randomly one day and have been hooked ever since, and I hope you feel the same!
Jiqui may be a bass artist, but his music isn’t your typical “headbanger” dubstep. While you can still definitely headbang to his beats, his style of dubstep is less about how heavy he can make the downbeat and more about how creative he can get with the rhythm and accents. Take his song “Plow” for example. Amidst the complexity of the track, every part feels intentional and seamlessly blends together. The catchy hook leading into the first drop showcases his production skills, while the drop itself feels like a freestyle version of dubstep—fun, with a beat pattern that’ll get you moving and grooving on the dance floor. My personal favorite is his remix of “Burial,” exclusively released on SoundCloud. The growls in the drop perfectly complement the creative beat structure, making this song a definite repeat.
Jiqui is the kind of artist that’s bound to become a staple on festival lineups. Fortunately for us, we have the chance to see him in a small and intimate venue. Mark your calendars—Jiqui is set to play at Darkstar on May 25th. Get your tickets here!
