Brooklyn, NY Dance-Pop champion EVAN GIIA is making a splash in the EDM scene with dynamic live shows, standout vocal range, and a smooth production style. Inspired by numerous artists, genres, and eras, her unique brand of songwriting has earned a co-sign from industry titan Odesza. Her Brooklyn accent occasionally appears in her vocals, adding even more of her personality to her music and production style. EVAN GIIA has collaborated with artists such as Gorgon City, Louis The Child, Kasbo, and Devault to name a few (for now). Check out the list below for your EVAN GIIA introduction and be sure to check out the rest of her discography to hear all of her beautifully-produced gems.
“SWIM”
“SWIM” was my first exposure to the music of EVAN GIIA. This fact, along with the title and themes, are a perfect start to a summer kick off list. “SWIM” is a beautifully produced track with amazing vocals and lyrics. Themes of memories, hope, reconciliation, and a friendly warning can all be found in “Swim.” The chorus displays EVAN GIIA’s emotional depth, songwriting process, and vocal skills. “Silent with the rhythm. You can hear it if you listen.” The instrumentals on “SWIM” are like diving into a pool on a hot, 110+ degree Phoenix day. Providing relief to the lonely, down-trodden, and yearning alike. Percussion akin to bouncing diving boards that work alongside diving bass and synths help to reinforce the aquatic namesake of this track.
“Oxygen (Feat. Moore Kismet)”
“Oxygen,” a collaboration with legendary artist Moore Kismet, talks about overcoming one’s inner demons on the dance floor and “Keeping that bass line beating.” Using the lights, movements, and music to escape the issues that are currently plaguing you. EVAN GIIA and Moore Kismet are not messing around here and want you to have a GREAT TIME! Lyrics such as “Sweat drip down, heart beating” and “Oh yeah, we’re sprinting with the stars tonight” perfectly describe the rigorous euphoria that can take hold when one is immersed in an intense rave or festival. Grooving hi-hats, popping drums and high-pitched vocal effects keep things rolling. Tetris-like production notes can also be found throughout. The beat is steady and well-paced. Keeping the crowd ready to move and groove for hours on end. The collaborations mesh their production styles well and EVAN GIIA’s vocals are a track standout for sure.
“LIMIT” (Nostalgix Collaboration)
AH YES.. The second EVAN GIIA track that I heard. This one guest stars House Music Priestess Nostalgix and spotlights EVAN’s stand out vocals. The production on “Limit” is cybernetic, gritty, and most of all.. BASSY. The content (and cadence) of the lyrics combines Nostalgix’s impeccable sense of confidence with EVAN GIIA’s distinct vocals and delivery. Creating a dynamic and unique track that regularly tops my most replayed list on multiple platforms. The introductory paragraph demonstrates the unbridled self-assurance and confidence of both artists: “World Domination, step in line. Imma lead a nation intertwined. I paint war marks on my face. Don’t need your two cents, can’t be tamed.”
Production-wise, “Limit” is a highly danceable Bass house track with cascading bass drops, galloping Hi-hats, and crystalline synth patterns. The green tint on the single cover matches the energy and vibe of the track. An excellent creative choice that adds to the praise of this track. Check it out ASAP.
“Don’t Let Me Let Go” (Dillion Francis & ILLENIUM Collaboration)
This one has two industry juggernauts behind its production: Dillion Francis and ILLENIUM AND EVAN’s incredible vocal rage on full display. The lyrics are heartfelt and passionate. The beat and drops harken back to the old school EDM of the 2010’s. Catchy chorus and sharp production represent all the collaborating talent behind this one. “But lately I’ve been feeling like we haven’t been talking. Used to share our moments and stay up until morning. I’m about to lose my faith, give me something. Don’t let me let go.” Beautiful guitars bridge the digital soundscape, while the beautifully crafted synths carry us like a sky bound angel. EVAN GIIA’s vocals are uplifted by the instrumentals before the drops take center-stage. “Don’t Let Me Let Go” is a massive track that would be welcomed in any of the collaborating artist’s sets. Perhaps an epic B3B is in the near future?
“Mood Swings”
“Mood Swings” is a lyrical masterpiece that captures the ups and downs of life. The track begins with a self-care assessment. “I’m feeling good. I’ve been feeling good. Waking up on the right side lately. I’ve been drinking up. I’ve been filling my cup. I’ve been drinking my water lately.” The lyrics then shift to a description of the mood swings that are currently being experienced. “I’m going chill to lose it, I go wild, don’t egg me on.” EVAN acknowledges that she does not want to numb these feelings, despite how how strong and unpredictable the mood swings are: “I can’t keep up with my emotions, but I need them.” In the next lines, she reveals that something about the weekends gives her solace. But as soon as the week resumes, she is plagued with these mood swings. Perhaps she can escape these issues during weekend activities.
The next verse acknowledges that these intense emotions and mood swings cause her to lash out at others just when she appears to have it all together: “My emotions are louder lately. And every time I think I got my glass full. I might tip it over, but I’ll blame you. I’m a little shady.” Shimmering production accompanies the forward and honest lyrics. The beat is mellow, chill and laid-back. Painting a kaleidoscopic backdrop for EVAN GIIA’s vocals to dance upon and provide mutual comfort to her and the listener. Listen above.
