Albums are a labor of love and offer a glimpse into an artist’s universe where they create entirely new worlds. With a full-length album, an artist can truly flex their creative muscles, crafting a more cohesive piece compared to a single or an EP. Because of that, an EDM album is often dynamic, exploring different facets of an artist’s style beyond just their primary genre.
Welcome to “The Greatest Album by Album” series, where we dive into albums that I believe belong in the top echelon of the industry.
Madeon – Good Faith – Released in 2019
Honestly, I was late to the Madeon party. I remember it was only a few years ago when I heard a recording of Madeon’s set from Ultra 2022 and rushed to the car to play his Good Faith album. Ever since then, I’ve been a true Madeon stan—he’s one of the best EDM artists out there, in my opinion. Madeon has a special touch when it comes to producing, combining elements often seen in classic music and turning them into masterpieces in his electronic songs. It’s wild to see his complex compositions, especially considering the end results are often “simple” and easy to listen to. He truly creates worlds within worlds in his tracks, and the world is a better place because of him.
In 2019, Madeon released Good Faith and truly defined himself as a headliner. This album is an amazing work of art—so much so that it was nominated for a Grammy. The album showcases his production skills and starts off incredibly strong with “Dream Dream Dream” and “All My Friends.” A true standout track is “Mania,” where the melody swirls around you like water falling from the sky, creating an emotional twister that hits hard. “Fear No More” is another standout, with a funky bassline perfectly complemented by electronic ascents that only Madeon can do. My personal favorite is the penultimate track, “Heavy with Hoping,” a vocal-heavy song that is bittersweet. The vocals in this song are truly breathtaking, evoking emotions in any listener. It’s no wonder this album was nominated for a GRAMMY; the journey is truly beautiful.
Madeon has made a name for himself, and it’s a blessing if he ever performs near you. After releasing Good Faith, Madeon performed a live rendition across venues throughout the world. Currently, he’s taking a “gap year” while focusing on the next phase. Whatever is next, we wait patiently and eagerly, as it’s proven to be amazing.
