One of the newest additions to one of the most prolific multigenre record labels of our time, Deadbeats, has burst onto the scene in a big way in the past few years. Steller, a bass artist out of Florida, is one of the most exciting producers on the stage. With a flow and set structure that is fresh and creative, she is setting herself apart from the rest of the pack and making a true impact on the scene. Steller is just one of the many amazing artists who were featured on the most recent Deadbeats release, We Are Deadbeats Vol. 6. Her contribution to the compilation album, “Vibe One Time,” was a standout record to me for its ingenuity and sound design. Something that she has been focusing on since moving to producing music, Steller takes inspiration from some of this generation’s greatest acts, first and foremost Pretty Lights. In addition, Steller has been influenced and inspired by GRiZ and Zeds Dead, founder of the Deadbeats record label that has brought us so much of the best music in the past decade.
I had the pleasure of interviewing Steller to discuss some of the highlights of her career, where she gets inspiration, and what to expect from her in the coming year. There is a lot to be excited for as Steller continues to ramp up her project, create more new music, and grow her loyal following. Check out the Relentless Beats exclusive interview below!
How was your weekend after the big release? Did you do anything special to celebrate?
I was up in New York visiting family, and I went to a Pretty Lights concert, which is one of my favorite inspirations, favorite artists, and their sound inspired my sound a lot, which you can also hear in the new release.
You are landing releases on some of the biggest labels in dubstep and bass, with your most recent two being (‘Brand New Funk’) Odyzey and (‘Vibe One Time’) Deadbeats. What has been the most exciting about these new releases or what has been most influential in helping you reaching these heights?
I think just like over time my production has gotten better. I think that these labels are kind of recognizing that which also makes me feel good. And I think that’s just really the big thing, just consistency and just keep at it, keep sending out my music, and eventually it just got picked up. So I’m really grateful for that.
What was it that originally got you into music? Was there one show, event, or release that inspired you to start your career?
I’ve just [have] always been a music person. I actually started with more singer songwriter guitar stuff. But then when I was in high school I discovered EDM and I started going to raves, and that kind of fueled the fire to do this style of music. And yeah, Pretty Lights was one of the first shows that I ever went to. Then in college I did audio engineering and that’s where I started to do more electronic production. So yeah, I don’t know if there’s like a single thing that did it. I’ve always just kind of been musically driven, but definitely the Pretty Lights thing and going to these underground raves when I was younger.
Who are some of the most influential artists for you? Is there one artist in particular that you would like to work with in the future?
Zeds Dead obviously, just got on their label but they were also some of the first people that I ever saw perform. GRiZ is also in my top three favorite artists. These are also the dream collabs. I would say Zeds Dead, GRiZ, Troyboi was another one.
What can fans expect for you in the future, 2025 and beyond?
I have pretty full fall tour schedule coming up and the end of the year. I’m really excited for Lost Lands and Wakaan, it’ll be my first Wakaan fest. We have releases pretty much every month through the rest of the year too, so [fans] can expect a lot of new music. And then 2025 is going to be the best year ever. I can’t really say much more about it, but there’s definitely, like a lot to look forward to.
