YetepI often talk about EDM projects where multiple artists come together to create something fresh (think Masterhand, Rezzmau5, ISOKNOCK, etc.) and how these partnerships benefit both the artists and their audiences. But outside of these official collabs, there are countless artists who, as friends, occasionally team up—and still have a tremendous impact on the community. One of the biggest examples? Seven Lions and Wooli. Every one of their collaborations absolutely hits, and it’s no coincidence. Their sounds and styles complement each other so perfectly that fans are always craving more from both.
Each artist has carved a unique path with their signature sound, but when they cross paths, it’s guaranteed to produce an S-tier banger. Tracks like “Island” and “Another Me” have become staples in countless DJ sets, including sets from heavyweights like Illenium. And who could forget “Shadows” and “Light in the Dark”? These incredible collabs highlight just how powerful they are together. The secret to their collaborative success lies in the shared qualities of their sounds. Both artists are skilled in multiple genres, but let’s start with melodic bass. Seven Lions is, of course, the king of melodic bass, with sweeping chord progressions that skyrocketed him as a true innovator. Wooli has built on that, introducing what I’d call “dark” melodic bass, adding intensity and aggression to those massive chords—a vibe you can hear in the second drop of “Restraint” and the first drop of “Dopamine.” This parallel in style lets them dive deep into creative territory together.
Then there’s their mutual love for bass music, with each of them delivering devastating dubstep drops in their tracks. Together, their bass drops are monumental, unleashing absolute destruction any time they’re played (think of the second drop of “Island” or “Another Me”). Both artists flex across genres with ease, which lets them craft songs that blend their signature sounds seamlessly across every drop. It’s no wonder their collaborations are true works of art.
Seven Lions and Wooli are a match made in EDM heaven, and the world needs more of their collabs. Here’s hoping Seven Lions returns to Arizona soon, but in the meantime, we’re lucky to have Wooli coming to Decadence this NYE—so don’t miss out and snag those tickets here!
