YetepSan Francisco-based progressive house producer and DJ Spencer Brown has had a storied career since dropping his first EP, Chalice, in 2014. The EP was released through Avicii‘s label LE7ELS, shortly followed by Spencer Brown’s 2018 debut album, Illusion of Perfection. Released by the famed Anjunabeats label. His newest single “Chair 10” dropped in late June 2024 and features a swanky, tropical beat with a shimmering silver coat. He also released a hypnotic interpretation of “Bodies” by Drowning Pool, known as “Body Dub.” A distorted “Let the bodies hit the floor” chant repeats over a choppy House beat. This beat gradually evolves throughout the five and a half minute song, putting Spencer Brown’s progressive production techniques on full display. The transitions flow seamlessly and guide the listener through the various track segments. The interpretation is so subtle that I missed it for half of my first play through. Spencer Brown’s eye for detail and experimental, creative spirit have taken him far in the last 11 years, solidifying his reputation in the scene.
Spencer Brown continues to tour and is set to headline Sunbar Tempe on Friday March 28th. He will be performing a highly anticipated three hour set, with support from Michael Hooker. His inventive spin on House, Techno, and Trance makes him a set that you will not want to miss. This is an essential show for any House music fan out there. Spencer Brown’s progressive sound waves and Sunbar’s iconic laser displays will mesh for an unforgettable night. The show is 21+. Doors open at 9:00PM with supporting acts beginning immediately. Venue entry concludes at 1:30AM. Spencer Brown will take the stage around 11:00PM and continue until the lights come on at 2:00AM.
