YetepArizona Duo Polar Bears are back with another danceable hit. This time, the polar bear attire wearing producers have teamed up with anonymous, multi-songwriter/vocalists project NEVVE to create, “Good On You,” a smooth track that is equal parts melody and euphoria. The song begins with fist-pumping drums, shimmering synth bars, and cascading instrumentals. Bass pours down like thick raindrops. Coating the song’s rhythmic foundation in a fine layer of rainfall. NEVVE’s soulful vocals are the perfect companion for the addictive hook and beat.
“Good For You” picks up the pace. Introducing a catchy House beat to the mix. The beat builds up until it explodes into a kaleidoscopic burst of sound, radiating out like EDM searchlights. The thumping bassline and drums create an irresistible head bob in the listener, while the beautiful synth patterns fully immerse the listener into the track.
The lyrics discuss well-wishers, viewing “problems in HD” and “letting go” of the past. They also tell the subject of the song that being “cut loose” from their problems (or perhaps a former partner) has given them a more confident aura that “looks good” on them. Attracting the attention of NEVVE, while encouraging the love interest to “dance like we made it through,” painting a positive image of their futures.
“Good On You” then fades out slightly, with only the bassline, vocals, and progressive synths. The drums and elements gradually return as NEVVE continues to BELT IT! Admitting she “was afraid to break the wall” and “got used to being comfortable.” Drastically switching up the song in one line: “Now that we’re through.. and for the record It looks good on me too. Good on you.” Is she talking about the same person as the first verse? Or have things fizzled out..Bringing a possible new love interest into the mix. This switch-up is one of my FAVORITE little details. The song then fades out with grace and melody.
This was my first time listening to Polar Bears and I am very impressed by their melodic and well-layered production style. NEVVE’s vocals and delivery are ON POINT. Pairing well with the shifting elements of “Good On You.” The melody and lyrics do a great job of capturing (and holding) the listener’s attention, while also pairing well with the beat. A great introduction to an incredible AZ duo!
