YetepJkyl & Hyde and DENNETT just dropped the next summer anthem with their new track, “Wastin’ My Time.” Stepping away from their usual hard-hitting dubstep, the duo crafted a genre-defying heater that effortlessly blends beauty and chaos – and it 100% works.
Denver-based DJ/producer Jkyl & Hyde, best known for his aggressive, bass-driven sound, is entering a new chapter this summer – his melodic “Jkyl” era. “This project is about duality and contrast,” he says, a concept that echoes through his recent remixes for ELY OAKS & LAVINIA, Badger & Julia Wolf, and Angrybaby. These tracks explore harmonic textures while still staying true to his gritty roots.
On the flip side, DENNETT is California-born, but don’t let that fool you. Outside of his University of Arizona roots, he has strong Arizona ties and is truly rising like a Phoenix in the EDM bass scene. This Purple Prodigy is no stranger to having the festival circuit on lock. Subtronics and Disco Lines recently dropped DENNETT’s remix of NOTION’s “The Days” at Shambhala, which has surpassed half a million streams on SoundCloud. His latest remix EP, Grand Slam Vol. 1, is already sitting at over 180K streams and climbing fast.
“Wastin’ My Time” begins with a delicate, airy female vocal that immediately hooks you with lyrics like, “I’m wasting my time with you, but I like it, I like it too.” It builds into a vibrant Speed Garage drop, pulsing with emphatic kicks and a hypnotic bassline, layered over a seamless vocal chop. Just when you think you know where it’s going, the real drop hits with a melodic dubstep switch-up with fluttering wubs and intricate drum breaks that serve as quality ear candy.
The track continues to evolve with a thoughtful bridge and a poignant vocal quote that reminds listeners that life is too short to waste on the wrong energy. As the vocals return, they’re glitched with tasteful stutters, leading into another Speed Garage build-up before slamming into a wubby, melodic bass drop that hits all the right feels. The outro ties it all together, fading out gracefully which is a perfect end to a genre-blurring journey.
Supported by heavyweights like Zeds Dead, Excision, Subtronics, San Holo, and John Summit, both DENNETT and Jkyl & Hyde are poised to take over the rest of the year. “Wastin’ My Time” is the kind of track that gets rinsed all festival season long and you’ll definitely hear it LIVE at Rawhide when Jkyl & Hyde hits SHAQ’s Bass All Stars on August 16th, and when DENNETT returns for Goldrush Music Festival on September 12th.
