Remix Recall: Chris Lake’s Reimagination of 2000s hit, ‘Galvanize’

Chris Lake has basically been the soundtrack of my summer (if you’ve been keeping up with my socials or the other pieces I’ve written, you already know I can’t stop talking about him), so it only makes sense that this week’s Remix Recall is on his new remix of Galvanize by The Chemical Brothers. First released in 2005, Galvanize—featuring Q-Tip—was an instant classic, blending hypnotic Moroccan Chaabi strings, heavy breakbeats, and a commanding vocal that made it one of the most unforgettable tracks in electronic music history. Two decades later, Chris Lake takes the reins, giving the anthem a modern house makeover built for today’s festival stages and club floors. Out now on Positiva Records, the remix arrives just in time for the track’s 20th anniversary.

Lake’s remix doesn’t try to reinvent the wheel; it honors the essence of the original while infusing it with his signature tech-house energy. Driving basslines, crisp percussion, and a four-on-the-floor groove push the track into peak-time territory, all while keeping Q-Tip’s iconic vocals and the Chaabi string motif front and center. The result is both nostalgic and fresh—a perfect way to introduce longtime fans to a new take and give newer listeners a taste of the classic.

“Remixing a track as iconic as ‘Galvanize’ is no small task,” says Chris Lake. “It’s a song that changed the game when it dropped, so my goal was to honor that legacy while giving it a version that would fit into my own DJ sets and discography. I’m super happy with the balance I managed to strike between the original and my own style.”

The remix follows the success of Lake’s debut album Chemistry, which dropped in July and debuted at #13 on Billboard’s Electronic Album Chart, while also breaking into the Top 10 Global and USA Album Debut Charts on Spotify. Chris also secured the #1 spot as the top-selling artist on Beatport’s mid-year chart, further cementing his dominance in the electronic music scene. The new Chemical Brothers remix builds on Lake’s remarkable momentum in 2025, including recent collaborations with Disclosure, Atrip, and his second track with Sammy Virji, 925, following their viral summer anthem Summertime Blues.

Chris Lake will bring the Chemistry Album Tour to the pulsing dancefloor of Revel in Albuquerque on December 11th, and the open-air energy of Rawhide in Chandler on December 13th. Both nights are expected to be major highlights of the tour, capping off the year with unforgettable energy and some really incredible house music.
