YetepGuy Gerber, the Israeli producer known for his hypnotic, genre-defying approach to electronic music, returns with Misirlou, a new EP that finds him stepping outside the deep melodic house and techno framework he helped define. Instead, he pulls from surf rock, rockabilly, spaghetti westerns, and the energy of 1950s and 1960s rebellion to create something that feels alive, unpredictable, and deeply personal.
The title track, “Misirlou,” recreates a century-old melody through Gerber’s modern lens. Surf guitar textures and cinematic aspects collide, much of it performed by Gerber himself on guitar, bass, an organ, and drums. It’s electronic music that works quite differently, seamlessly blending live instruments with modern electronic production.
On the flip side, “Don’t Turn Away From Love,” he leans further into rock-romance with a title borrowed from David Lynch’s “Wild at Heart.” The track has a balance of vulnerability and boldness, setting the tone for a new creative chapter.
Recorded across Ibiza, Tokyo, Mexico, Los Angeles, and Rio de Janeiro, the EP reflects a creative process focused on live instrumentation. All percussion was tracked in Rio, with trumpet recorded in Mexico, the only element Gerber didn’t perform himself.
As the creator of the RUMORS event series and a fixture on stages from Burning Man to Ibiza, Gerber has built a career on evolution without compromise. Misirlou is the first step into a broader, more defiant chapter, with a full album expected later this year.
