Relentless Beats

My Favorite Songs from SubDocta’s ‘Second Opinion’ LP

Wobble Veteran SubDocta has been on the scene for about a decade. He has toured extensively and released numerous bangers and collaborations, creating a wide reaching discography and fanbase. SubDocta’s discography has expanded yet again with the release of his newest album, Second Opinion. The name is a well-fitting doctor pun and the cover carries his trademark aesthetic. I recently reviewed “Freaky Naughty” and “Turnt,” two standout singles released before the album dropped. This article will cover some of my other favorite highlights.

Back In It,” the second track on the album, is a very notable highlight. It features Acemyth and tackles numerous soundscapes with effortless transitions between its varied sections. The progressive track features sputtering spirals, chunky bass riffs, and choppy production techniques. Alarms ring out under the surface as the beat moves and bends. Rubbery frequencies, velvet smooth grooves, and notes of an ice cream truck sound add layers and diversity to “Back In It’s” auditory backdrop. The effective use of sampling adds to the overall themes, creating a masterclass in sound production.

The Way of the Wub ” is also appropriately named, perfectly describing the choppy wubs. It’s grumbling intro slithers along, breaking into a HEAVY drop right out of the gate. Bass rises and falls, creating a digital avalanche of wobbles. The drops greatly vary in their sound and execution, keeping things interesting throughout the runtime. The final drop is my favorite! It brings out your bassface and a steady sideways headbang. Check this out for some VIBES.

Lose Your Mind” was the album’s biggest surprise for me BY FAR! It begins as a wobbly wonderland with upbeat drums and crunchy bass. However, it gradually morphs into a wild drum and bass influenced tune. The drops move at a breakneck pace, never letting up on the wobbles and wubs. Drums and bass bounce off each other like a pinball machine. Things slow down a bit towards the middle of the track. The drums still move fast, but the beat gets tighter. GROWLING bass breaks the silence. Ramping up into the final drop. This progressive drop features bonkers frequencies and dizzying heights, carrying out the rest of the runtime and fading out with glory.

Second Opinon continues SubDocta’s track record of top-notch releases and veteran wubs. He continues to push the boundaries of his sound. Exploring new genres, design choices, while working with eager collaborators. His style has made a significant imprint in my mind and made him one of my favorite DJs. Listen to Second Opinion today for an unforgettable experience!
