Gems of the Instagram Algorithm: ‘Dirty Diner’ & ‘Jelly Bass’

FRI, JUN 19, 2026

Instagram has been a consistent source of inspiration for me throughout my time as a blog writer. I have found some of my favorite producers and BANGERS from the Instagram algorithm alone. The most notable example of this when I was recommended a post by Ghost In Real Life (G.I.R.L.) showing off her punk/drum and bass chops. Instagram has recommended me everything from melodic EDM, to gritty DnB, and hard-hitting techno. This wide genre net creates a cycle that feeds into itself, leading to an ever widening range of discoveries. Some of these posts are from the artist’s themselves, while others feature videos from creators who use the song as a template. The most recent instance of this lead to two pleasantly absurd gems.

The first recommendation is the radio edit of “Dirty Diner” by Brett Maverick. This song is commonly featured on reels posted by nathan_togun that feature the coach/personal trainer punching and kicking at the air. The reels describe common situations that are falsely perceived as a threat, with kicks and punches as a result. Phrases like “you’re next” and “you wanna go” are painted as violent threats. The use of this song adds an extra layer of silliness to the mix. The song’s slick, old school groove and perky wubs give the track a laid back vibe. It’s laidback sound makes it a versatile reel template for any creator.

The nathan_togun reels have quickly become my new favorite trend, cementing “Dirty Diner” a spot on my replay list.

The next example is even more elaborate than the first. “Jelly Bass” by FREE STUFF is on a DNB track that is on a whole new level of absurd. It is one of the most eccentric EDM songs that I have ever heard. It lives up to its name with thick drums/bass and gelatinous drops. Frog/fart effects and cartoon sounds straight out of Scooby-Doo add more layers of absurdity. The steady breakbeat gives the track a rhythmic foundation upon which to spiral out of control. Lil Jon “WHAT” samples and random censorship bleeps are also spiraled into the inter-dimensional drops. The ending concludes with a blend of the elaborate beat, DnB foghorns, and Dubstep wobbles.

This was suggested to me in some insane reel pulls and also frequents my replay list.
