Just A Gent & Jemma Cher Collaborate on Chill Jam, ‘Nothing Can Touch Us’
The newest release from Australian producer Just A Gent gave me the most creative inspiration that I have had in a while. “Nothing Can Touch Us” is an absolute JAM! The song features Jemma Cher on vocal duties and a unique blend of sounds & genres. Just A Gent blends classical instrumentation with modern production techniques, resulting in a magnificent hybrid track. In addition, the jellyfish-inspired cover art captures the chill energy that this release brings forth.
“Nothing Can Touch Us” begins with jazzy saxophone, subtle DnB breakbeats, and gorgeous piano. Jemma’s vocals swirl under the surface as the bassline rises. Her vocals fully take over before dropping us into the melody. This is where the song really takes off. Revving bass effortlessly bounces off of the breakbeats, while the piano notes add a classic feel to the groove. Scratch effects add an improvisational feel to track sections. The beat retracts, briefly passing the spotlight over to the vocals.
“God knows. Cause everything is the same. Nothing can touch us now!”
The song ramps back up with bass wobbles, spirals, and more jazzy notes. This track section sounds like it was ripped straight out of a classic spy thriller. Heavy bass is countered by Jemma Cher’s majestic vocals.
“Do you still worry? You don’t say. Who would have known she’d be right here?
The tempo builds back up once again. Grumbling foghorn effects add a more intricate layer of DnB to the mix. “Nothing Can Touch Us” ends with a storm of jazz and DnB influences pleasantly clashing.
This release balances melody, grit, and speed into one effective package. The numerous genre influences come together perfectly. Jemma Cher’s vocals adapt well to the shifting vibes. “Nothing Can Touch Us” reignited my love of Drum & Bass and sent me down a rabbit hole of new Spotify recommendations. I love this song and cannot wait for the next Just A Gent release. Enjoyyy
