Artist Spotlight: Tori Levett
I first discovered Australian singer/producer Tori Levett through the Instagram algorithm. The song “ICY” was recommended to me and immediately stood out. “ICY” is a techno wonderland that features HN2. It begins with a gradual buildup and quiet vocals. Tori then breaks into rap territory with a unique, bouncing flow. Her vocal delivery stands out and blends softness with sheer confidence. “ICY” contains Kicks, high hats , and wobbly basslines. The drops are supercharged with techno energy and massive bass. The drops break in and out, with drum heavy sections to balance out the larger than life bass. Tori’s natural charisma and swagger accentuate the track’s energy. Making this a hell of a first impression.
The next song I will cover is “Over Again” released through the Technoblazer label. “Over Again” does not hesitate, coming out with a fist-pumping beat and Tori’s gorgeous vocals. The beat and vocals intensify before breaking into the verses. The buttery smooth vocals pair well with the tech-house energy. The vocals reach new heights, ascending before coming back down to earth. The beat retracts, putting the vocals at center stage. The drum effects come back with full force to build up the drop. The first drop features choppy wubs and spiraling sounds. The drop rises high with a classic tech-house sound, with keyboards and kicks picking up where the drop left off. The song goes radio silent, building anticipation for the next section. Quiet keys are joined by Tori’s patented vocals. Her voice and vocal range gets me every time. I could listen to her sing for hours. “Over Again” ends with a blend of tech house and trap. Closing out a truly epic track.
“Do you need me? Is it all just a game? you’re the fire i’ll just burn in the flames. Over and over again…again. Tried so hard to keep you.”
An honorable mention is Tori Levett’s collaboration with NGHTMRE and Zed’s Dead on breakout hit “Shady Intentions.” This catchy track features outstanding production, courtesy of all artists involved. A Finger snapping beat transforms into a full-bodied drop. In the style of each collaborative artist. Tori’s subtle vocals blend well with the big room energy of this bop.
