Delta Heavy at Goldrush: 11 Years in the Making

In the early days of discovering EDM (2015), I encountered two artists who shared a core sound, while expanding on the genre formula. The fast-moving drums, fog horn effects, and overall vibe blew me away. These artists were Chase and Status and Delta Heavy, my introductions to Drum and Bass. The first DnB song that got me started was Streetlife (feat. Takura Tendayi) by Chase and Status. My introduction to Delta Heavy came in the form of the music video for their song “Ghost.” The 2015 song is incredible on its own, but the video kicks things up a notch. It is an animated music video that features famous paperclip Microsoft Office assistant, Clippy! He falls into an alternate dimension and finds himself in the modern landscape of the NEW internet. Twitter, Voice recognition, and viral videos are all addressed here. This premise for a music video is GENIUS and memorable. The videos for “White Flag” and “Get By” also stand out in my mind. The animated and claymation videos have kept Delta Heavy living rent free in my head, adding Delta Heavy to my list of Bucket List Producers.

I waited an agonizing 11 years for this set. I was STOKED to see them on the lineup for this year’s running of Goldrush. The long awaited set, plus Alleycvt and Deadmau5 made this a fest that I will never forget. Delta Heavy’s set took place at the same time as teddy bear sax-player GRiZ, one of the most popular acts around today. This left plenty of room for me to dance and let loose. I lost my friends right before and booked it to the stage DH was at. For some reason, drum and bass sets always make me the most FERAL. The breakneck pace and MC hype just have a way of amping me up. The Delta Heavy set was no exception. The crowd was FANTASTIC and matched the intense energy well. Everyone was having a good time. I was mesmerized by the visuals and went extra hard when they played “White Flag”; an incredible full-circle moment. This set is permanently etched in my brain and I HIGHLY recommend Delta Heavy’s music, videos, and sets. Thank you for reliving this journey with me. Happy Raving!
