After being introduced to electronic music in the early 1990s in Los Angeles, teenage David Flores was immediately hooked. He began DJing across Southern California’s DIY warehouse, desert, and rave circuits, developing a style as diverse as the local scene itself—blending sounds that ranged from house and acid to techno and hardcore.
After several years behind the decks, Flores began releasing original music under the moniker Audio Injection, landing records on labels including Monoid, Stimulus, 4 Track, and Los Angeles-based Droid Recordings. His relationship with Droid Behavior began in 2003 and continues today as a resident of the internationally acclaimed Interface event series alongside Drumcell and Raiz.
In early 2011, Flores launched Truncate, a project dedicated to the deeper, raw side of techno. Releases under the Truncate name quickly earned critical acclaim and support from some of the underground’s most respected artists, including Modeselektor, Ben Klock, Marcel Dettmann, Chris Liebing, Speedy J, DVS1, Luke Slater, Ben Sims, Josh Wink, Eats Everything, and Joris Voorn, among many others.
Since then, Truncate has provided remixes for artists across the electronic spectrum, including Kink for Pets Recordings, Slam for Soma, Trus’me for Prime Numbers, and Josh Wink for Boyznoize. He has also released original productions on 50 Weapons and Ultramajic through collaborations with Jimmy Edgar, while continuing to release music on his own Truncate imprint.
An extensive international touring schedule soon followed, taking him to some of the world’s most respected clubs and festivals, including Berghain, Fabric, Concrete, Movement Music Festival, WOMB, Dimensions Festival, Awakenings Festival, and Output.
Despite a relentless schedule of touring, remixing, and producing, Flores shows no signs of slowing down. Through Truncate, he continues to refine his evolving sound while remaining a steadfast champion of the Los Angeles underground techno scene.
