In the history of my relationships, I have known two red heads who I’m down with. First, my cousin Connor is an OG so obviously we chill. Second is Britain’s electro bad boy Rusko. In the last few years, this guy has grown from someone I only cared about because of his Twitter fight with Deadmau5 into one of the most listened too artists in the electro house world.
Ever since I saw him at Hard Halloween, I’ve been absolutely convinced that this guy is on the cusp of something huge. Obviously he is popular and knows how to play music that his fan base loves, but the reggae infused tracks on his brand new album “Songs” prove to me that the Englishman’s unique sound is not being lost in his rise to fame.
Without a doubt my favorite album released by any EDM artists this year, ‘Songs‘ is a prototype for what an electro album needs to sound like. Rusko has set the bar in terms of quality with this album, and other prominent artists in the game should look to him for advice on how he’s created such a masterpiece.
Regardless how much you like electro, even the most dedicated of ravers rarely listen to albums. Besides the fact that the majority of artists are releasing mixtapes in their place, it takes dedication and an affinity towards loud noise to listen to an EDM album all the way through.
Rusko’s game changer has paved the way though for future electro albums–simply put this was the first time I was ever able to listen and really enjoy every single track. Besides that, like the best albums from any genre, the songs weren’t just thrown together and sent out. The best albums, regardless of genre, flow from the beginning and all the way through the end. Prior to ‘Songs’ I couldn’t give you one electronic album that fit that definition.
While I can’t expect you all to go out there and raid the iTunes Music Store after you read this, I do hope you’ll give Rusko a shot. Before this came out, I could’ve given you three or four tracks by him that were killer. Now? I don’t have time to give you like 10+ tracks so you’ll have to cop that CD.
Just like his success with Amber Coffman on their single ‘Hold On,’ Rusko’s premier single on his new album is graced by a female with beautiful vocals. ‘Thunder‘ is one of those tracks that you know will be good for a long time. Sure I’ve listened to it all morning, but in two or three years when I want to hear some Rusko—‘Thunder‘ will be where I go first.
