Phantogram Joins Forces with Subtronics & Rezz on Explosive New Version of 'Black Ice'
The DJ to Watch of the week is Tyler Marenyi, better known as NGHTMRE. Growing up in North Carolina, Tyler Marenyi’s nickname was always Tmare. When he started producing back in 2009, he began using the nickname as his DJ moniker. After graduating college in North Carolina, Tyler moved to L.A. to go to the famed Icon Collective Production school to further his career as a DJ/producer. When he was nearing the end of his term at Icon, and had his tracks sounding the way he wanted them, he took that opportunity to re-brand himself and go by the name of NGHTMRE for his DJ career. NGHTMRE (nightmare) was chosen because it is one of the only words with his original nickname ‘Tmare’ in it.
Having arguably one of the biggest tracks of 2015 thus far, NGHTMRE has garnered support from some of his biggest influences in the industry for his song “Street,” including Bassnectar, Jack U, RL Grime, and Flosstradamus. He had started working on the track back in February and sent it to Snails upon completion. Skrillex had loved the track and asked to get it from Snails so he could later play it in his unforgettable, mind-bending Ultra Music Festival set earlier this year, which NGHTMRE says was a surreal experience.
NGHTMRE has plans to release a NGHTMRE EP later on in 2015, but prior to releasing his brand new original tracks, he has shared with us a remix that he has been playing in his sets for a few months now. In the NGHTMRE remix to “Dum Dee Dum” by Keys N Krates he keeps things “clean and simple with a BIG low end,” in his own words.
