YetepFinally! I kid you not, I heard this song for the first time just over a year ago today, and finally it has officially been released. One year ago at the Monarch Theatre for RL Grime’s VOID Tour, my friends and I were concert-goers, just like any other. Not necessarily paying attention to what was going on around me, but rather headbanging and flailing my arms about like a crazy fool, I stopped in my tracks when this murderous tune dropped. It is the only non-RL Grime track that I remember hearing the entire night, and thankfully I had my phone out to capture the moment. With this low-quality recording as my only means of listening to the song, until I found a slightly better rip online, “Killa” by Wiwek & Skrillex has been doing it’s best to evade me for the better part of a year.
With that said, I am happy to announce that this weeks Relentless Beat of the Week goes out to my no-longer-great-white-buffalo of a track, “Killa.” Although a slightly tweaked version from my first time hearing it, the addition of Elliphant makes for an astounding heaviness added to the already massive track.
Appropriately released February 25, “Killa” is featured on Wiwek’s new EP The Free and Rebellious which was released via OWLSA today! The new EP also features collaborations with Yellow Claw, Lil Debbie, Audio Bullys, Sirah, and Big Freedia. If “Killa” is something that hits you square in the gut like it does myself, or if you caught Wiwek’s crazy set at Decadence and liked what you heard, be sure to purchase the EP.
Wiwek – The Free And Rebellious EP Teaser
As for what Skrillex has been up to lately, you already know: collaborating the shit out of every artist on the face of the planet. Already this year he’s released collabs with 4Minute, Feed Me, TeamEZY, Wiwek, and Elliphant. In addition to these, there are rumors circulating of collabs with Lil Dicky, Marshmello, and even Incubus, still to come this year on top of his upcoming album with Diplo as Jack Ü.
With two unstoppable artists taking 2016 by its reigns and pulling hard, Wiwek and Skrillex, like always, are going to be artists you’ll want to keep on your radar. Stay tuned for next week’s Relentless Beat of the week, and don’t forget to pick up The Free and Rebellious today!
