YetepThe other day, Insomniac father and CEO Pasquale Rotela was able to be a part of a special detailing with the business of electronic dance music on CNBC. Which is a pretty big deal considering CNBC is one of the biggest national news providers in the Nation. While many of us know the EDM culture inside and out, not that many people get a look at what we are really about considering they aren’t a part of what is still a rather young business industry.
Rotella quickly rambled off basic facts such as EDM really being the broader term to a lot of other sub-genres including house and techno. Reporters quickly asked back, “How do we know this isn’t just another fad” considering there are a lot of pop culture fads these days. Rotella answered back with;
“We’re growing every day. Not just in the United States, but we’re growing internationally. Our 20 year anniversary is in 5 weeks in Vegas, and we’re already thinking about the next 10 years. What we’re going to be doing and how we’re going to use technology to enhance the experience – it’s an exciting time for festivals.”
He also touches on that fact that insomniac is becoming an global business too as they have touched roots in Brazil, Mexico, and will soon be stepping foot in Japan and India! He brings up notable collaborations among artists such that of David Guetta and Black Eyed Peas almost 5 years ago. Even today we see a lot of Justin Bieber and Skrillex to name something more contemporary. It’s also cool to note that all the reporters were almost eager to asks their questions, at some points barely letting Rotella finish before they fired off another. Guess it’s good to see that the world is finally coming around and realizing the potential of electronic music, specifically that of dance music!
