YetepA recent news report from Digital Music News says that pretty soon Soundcloud will be implementing stricter regulations on when people upload their Mixes to the site. DMN’s source told them, “I don’t think the DJs are going to be happy. Probably piss off a lot of subscribers too,” referring to people under the new Soundcloud Go system.
While one statement says this, another source from YourEDM says that this could actually not be true. An official statement from Soundcloud on the matter reads: “The story has no truth to it. At SoundCloud, we’re on a mission to create a place where all creativity can live. SoundCloud’s creator community, including DJs, is incredibly important to us.”
Soundcloud has really been in some tough heat lately. From having nearly $35 million in debt, to having to hire a CRO, and even the merger with Sony has been difficult. However, Soundcloud has a reputation that is extremely unique and that they want to keep. If they stray away too far from it their original business model and core values will fade away. Placing massive restrictions on DJs uploads would not necessarily help them in this matter in any way, shape, or form.
