EDC20 Artist Spotlight on UMEK: The Techno Icon Returns to EDC Vegas For Sixth Consecutive Year

EDC Las Vegas hits a major milestone this year with the festival’s returns for it’s incredible 20th year of infectious music, breathtaking design, endless activities, and a community so enveloped in unity that it is difficult to imagine an environment any more welcoming.

However, within the festival, many more milestones are being reached. This will be the sixth consecutive year that Slovenian techno icon, UMEK, will be making an appearance at the epochal festival. This is a big year for all, and with EDC/Insomniac and Ebay‘s charity auction held early this month, UMEK is looking to make this experience memorable for not only himself, but also his fans. Already having raised $1,400 through the charity auction, one lucky winner will have the pleasure and experience of a lifetime to go b2b and live-mix a track on stage with UMEK during his neonGARDEN performance at EDC20.

A special gift indeed, this seasoned techno veteran is in possession of this notoriety for a reason. Having been a leading member in the scene for over 20 years, UMEK’s latest project to aid in the continuing development of the industry with the help of Native Instruments is their MOLTEN VEIL Maschine Expansion. The MOLTEN VEIL is curated by UMEK himself and serves to aid producers who are looking for the bold, dynamic sound of UMEK’s dense basslines, jarring hi-hats, and deep kick drum characteristics of his dynamic, four-to-the-floor mainroom techno.

In addition, this techno mastermind just released his latest track “Culminate,” a heavy techno track with hollow synth evoking imagery of the underground clubs of days past. Using a quote from Sylvester Stallone to describe the track, “Success is usually the culmination of controlling failure,” UMEK’s latest is a testament to a career filled with highs and lows, but one that has also culminated into something especially significant.

Sooner or later all artists return to their roots. I’ve always been known to be a techno artist, even when I wasn’t really playing and producing techno. So, when the fans and the media see you as a techno artist no matter what you deliver, then you probably are a techno artist – if it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it probably is a duck.”
