YetepCalgary natives Pete Emes & Mike Grimes are Smalltown DJs, but their sound has evolved outside of the small town they started in. Exploding out of the clubs in Calgary they held down since the beginning, Emes and Grimes now reign over their own label Bigfoot Records and cultivate their brand by fertilizing it with new releases, supporting gigs with Diplo and Christian Martin, and in general careening their smalltown groovy sound to the big cities. One of their most significant accomplishments in the last year is the guest mix they did for their friend Diplo on Diplo & Friends, which you can listen to below for a little taste of their eccentric, simply fun sound.
Smalltown DJs are transcending from the smalltown to the spotlight because of their straightforward approach to the way they produce and DJ. Their sets are saturated with the underground allure of rare house tracks and fluid drops, which are both unassuming but bold in the talent they exude. The strategy they’ve drawn up so far has done them well, so it will be no surprise if they hold the spotlight as they expand even further.
Smalltown DJs will join Christian Martin as support at Shady Park on April 5th. Click here to find tickets!
