“Wake Up” was created to uplift, inspire, and instill a sense of freedom and optimism in listeners. With a beautiful blend of Jason Ross‘ signature melodic bass stylings and Fairlane‘s acoustic guitar riffs, the record results in a sound that’s both powerful and heartfelt. “Wake Up” is more than just a song–it’s an anthem designed to motivate and elevate listeners. Whether you’re looking for a boost of positivity or simply want to enjoy a blend of Jason Ross’ expertise in crafting melodic basslines with Fairlane’s intricate guitar work, this track delivers on all fronts. A Monstercat jam for the ages.
“Wake Up” is a melodic masterpiece of a track. The acoustic guitar notes add to the natural, atmospheric feel of the beat. This is a refreshing sound that is catchy and GORGEOUS. With crystalline production elements that effortlessly roll with the acoustic guitars. Calming and empowering all at once. The vocals are strong and dynamic. Further adding to the empowering call to action woven within this track. Soaring into the clouds and coming back down to earth for the verses. The lyrics are heartfelt and meaningful. The first verse going as follows:
“I wish you’d just say something, ’cause I’m still outrunning your gravity. And it pulls me down. ‘Cause I am still in love, and you won’t give me nothing. And it’s killing me. And it pulls me down. You said I made you cry. Can’t get it out my mind. I’ll spend my whole life trying. And it pulls me down. I know we can’t go back. I can’t get over that. I’m giving all I have. And it pulls me down. It pulls me down.”
“Wake Up” then ascends into the first chorus, with prominent acoustic guitars, subtle drum effects, and majestic keys. “Wake up, wake up. ‘Cause I’m underwater. Wake up. You’re free to walk away if you wanna. Wake up, wake up. I said I’m underwater. ‘Cause I still love ya, and I’m going under.”
The first drop add heavier drum effects to mix. The acoustic guitars transform into electric riffs, while crisp synth patterns weave in and out. Leading to the second verse. Gorgeous keys and sharp spirals dance with an EDM breakbeat and reminiscent lyrics. “You used to like my music, ’cause you just got used to it. But I feel useless, and that pulls me down. Why don’t you just cut me off? It’s my hands I’ll bleed on. Something we agree on. That pulls me down.” The yearning (and sometimes dark) lyrics are contrasted with bright and upbeat instrumental elements. The emotional keys add to the longing presented within the lyrics, while the acoustic guitars provide an outlet for the emotional toil of the narrator. The chorus repeats and leads into the second drop. A splashy, digital wonderland with a sentimental loop and brain-massaging synths. “Wake up” then concludes with distorted samples and one last steam of acoustic guitars.
Jason Ross shares:
“So great working with Fairlane. We both brought something unique to the table so it was super exciting bouncing the song project back and forth. It came together super quick and really stoked with how it turned out!”
Fairlane adds:
“Working on this song was both incredibly stressful and fun at the same time. Jason and I were about 5 days out from playing a new years gig together in New York, and were wanting to premiere a new song together. Once we both agreed this was the right vibe for both of us, we essentially had less than 3 days to not only produce the song, but get approval from all the parties involved in the writing, etc. BUT WE DID IT! And playing it out for the first time was SO rewarding; people loved it! I think at the bottom line this entire track speaks volumes about what can be accomplished when two people put their minds together and really want something to happen.”
